dus-He Said, “Get Off the Car” — They Had No Idea Who They Were Mocking

Ethan slowly pulled a black key fob from his pocket. The instant Chase saw it, his smirk vanished. Mason stopped laughing, and Tyler lowered his sunglasses.
Ethan pressed one button. The supercar's mirrors unfolded, its lights flashed, and the engine gave a sharp electronic chirp. Every nearby head turned toward them.
Chase stared at the car, then at Ethan. “No way.” Ethan calmly stepped closer and replied, “You wanted proof. Now you’re looking at it.”
Mason awkwardly backed away from Chase. Tyler’s face tightened with embarrassment. The men who had been laughing seconds earlier suddenly looked desperate to disappear.
Chase forced another laugh. “So what? Anybody can borrow a key.” Ethan studied him quietly, then answered, “That would’ve been a smarter guess before insulting me.”
A valet manager hurried from the entrance, immediately recognizing Ethan. “Mr. Carter, your meeting ran long. Should I have your car brought around to the private exit?”
The words landed harder than any insult. Chase’s confidence collapsed completely. Ethan simply shook his head. “No. I think I’ll drive myself today.”
Mason whispered, “Dude, you leaned on his car.” Chase shot him a furious glance, but even he understood how ridiculous his arrogance suddenly looked.
Ethan walked around the car, checking the door where Chase had been leaning. Then he looked back. “Funny how fast people reveal themselves when they think you’re beneath them.”
Chase swallowed his pride and muttered, “Look, man, I didn’t know.” Ethan answered without raising his voice, “Exactly. You didn’t know anything about me.”
A small crowd had begun watching from the plaza entrance. Chase noticed the attention and lowered his voice. “Can we just forget this happened?”
Ethan opened the driver’s door but paused before getting inside. “I can forget the words. I won’t forget how comfortable you were saying them.”
Tyler finally removed his sunglasses. “He’s right, Chase.” Mason nodded reluctantly. For the first time, neither friend laughed, and Chase stood completely alone beside them.
Chase looked at Ethan and said quietly, “I was being an asshole.” Ethan gave a slight nod. “That’s the first honest thing you’ve said today.”
Instead of humiliating him further, Ethan stepped toward Chase and said, “Next time, respect somebody before you know what they own. That’s the real test.”
Chase glanced at Ethan’s plain shirt and worn jeans, suddenly understanding how badly he had misjudged him. “I guess clothes don’t tell you much.”
“They tell you almost nothing,” Ethan replied. “Character shows up faster.” Then he climbed into the supercar while the three friends remained silent outside.
The engine came alive with a deep, controlled roar. Ethan lowered the window, looked directly at Chase, and added, “And never lean on somebody else’s car.”
Mason burst into nervous laughter, but Chase didn’t. He stepped away immediately, embarrassed yet humbled, finally realizing that the afternoon had taught him something expensive.
Ethan pulled smoothly away from the plaza as pedestrians watched. Chase remained on the sidewalk, his arrogance gone, while Tyler quietly said, “You really earned that one.”
